Freemen’s offers bursaries to support families who may not have the financial means for an independent education. The level of bursary will depend on each family's individual circumstances and subject to means testing and the duration of the support required. Applications are strictly confidential and reviewed on a case-by-case basis, requiring a full financial assessment of income, expenditure, and assets, with supporting documentation. The School may also engage Bursary Administration Ltd (BAL) for independent assessment and interviews. All bursary decisions are final, subject to full disclosure, and reviewed annually.
Due to recent legislative changes introducing VAT on independent school fees, the number of bursaries available has been reduced, and future awards will depend on available funds.
Bursarial support is a cause close to the heart of the Headmaster, Roland Martin. Reflecting on his own experience, he shares, “I grew up in a council house, and my dad passed away when I was four and a half. I was brought up on a widow's pension and was fortunate to attend Rendcomb College, an independent school, on a full bursary. I spent seven years there as a boarder, and the experience was life-changing. It’s why I feel so passionately about providing young people with opportunities.”
Hearing the success stories of our former bursary recipients is a source of great pride and inspiration. Their journeys are a testament to the transformative power of a Freemen’s education, and we are delighted to share their experiences and the doors that have opened for them.
