Natasha awarded Arkwright Scholarship

Natasha Banks, Lower 6, has been awarded an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship at a ceremony at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in London.

The scholarship, which the Arkwright Foundation hopes will "identify, inspire and nurture future leaders in Engineering, Computing and technical (as opposed to aesthetic) Design", is both financial and pastoral with winners receiving mentoring from leading engineers in many disciplines.

Approximately 1,500 applicants took part in the selection process involving an exam, a project presentaition and an interview with senior engineers and designers from civilian and military backgrounds. A keen rower, Natasha redesigned part of the rowing gate on a racing boat for her presentation, which helped her become one of the 20 to 25% of applicants to secure a scholarship.

Natasha is thrilled with her award of a scholarship as she has always had a strong interest in design and science. Natasha intends to study some form of engineering  design at university with her current interest lying in marine engineering and naval architecture.
