Students Build Links with German School
German Club students have been working in partnership with a school in Germany to help improve their language skills and knowledge of the country.
For the third year, Freemen's Languages Department has been running a German Club, an initiative of "UK German Connection", for all students. Freemen's has been partnered with Friedrich-Hoffmann Gemeinschaftsschule Betzingen in Germany whose students participate in the same club and activities each week co-ordinated by German Language Assistant, Narine Movsisyan.
The group of students initially established pen pal relationships with the students in Germany before exploring aspects of German culture and language. Pupils have, over the past term, engaged with topics including multiculturalism, integration and identity through popular culture and sport. This has then been mirrored by the students in Germany to allow both sets of pupils to gain a thorough appreciation for life in their partner institution.
Narine said of the students' work: "This club has been a great opportunity for students to gain a deeper knowledge of life in Germany from celebrities to sport and food. It has been lovely to see the older students helping the younger pupils with their language skills and is a really enjoyable way to enjoy German."
