On Wednesday the Lower 6 Economists were invited to attend a discussion at the City of London Girls’ School focusing on ‘New Paradigms for Economics’.
The evening started with a talk led by Mr George Cooper author of ‘Fixing Economics’ and gave an overview of some of the issues currently faced by Economists and how we go about finding solutions. His talk drew on some of the models introduced by famous Economic Theorists such as Adam Smith and John Maynard Keynes.
We were then treated to a lively rebuttal from Dr. Abhinay Muthoo - Dean of Warwick University in London & Professor of Economics. He argued that many of the old theorists were now irrelevant and in fact we needed to be looking to the new generation of students to look to find better solutions.
There was an opportunity to ask questions before having time to meet with students from the other City of London Schools.
