It’s been a day of smiles, hugs, and happy tears at City of London Freemen’s School as our Upper Sixth students received their A Level results – and they’ve once again done us proud! The Class of 2025 have achieved another year of outstanding academic success, matching last year’s record-breaking performance – and far exceeding national averages.
Our Headmaster, Roland Martin said: “Consistency is really important, and I am so pleased that once again, students at Freemen's have performed so impressively at A Level, almost exactly in line with last year's fantastically impressive headline figures. Well done to all of our leaving pupils who have performed so well in their studies as well as contributing so significantly to the wider life and leadership of the School over the years. My thanks to staff and parents who have given their full support to this wonderful group of young people.”
Stand-out successes from 2025 include:
- Modern Foreign Languages: 90% achieved A* or A. 9% of Freemen’s students studied a language at A Level – nearly three times the national average
- Girls in STEM: 81% achieved A/A* in Maths and Further Maths, and 71% achieved A/A* across STEM subjects – with 96 STEM A Levels awarded in total. These results show how Freemen’s co-educational environment enables young women to excel in these areas
- Maths: 100% of Further Maths students earned an A* or A
- Destinations: Nearly 75% secured their first-choice university place, with popular choices including Imperial, LSE, UCL, Warwick, Durham, Bath, Exeter and Bristol
- Apprenticeships: One student will be joining Dyson on a prestigious Engineering Degree Apprenticeship
Twelve students achieved three or more A* grades, and almost half of the year group earned three or more A* and A grades.
Retiring Head of Sixth Form Sarah Stewart reflected: “The Class of 2025 will always hold a special place in my heart, as the last group I will see through their A Levels. I am so proud of all they have achieved – not only in their outstanding results, but in the way they have grown, supported one another, and embraced every challenge. These outcomes are a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of our teaching staff and families.”
Incoming Head of Sixth Form Rachel Keightley added: “It’s a privilege to step into this role at such an exciting time. The achievements of the 2025 cohort are a testament to their determination and the strength of the Freemen’s community. I look forward to building on this legacy and supporting future students as they strive for excellence both academically and personally.”
More Than Just Grades
Freemen’s Sixth Formers leave with more than academic results – they’ve led in music, drama, sport, debating, charity work, outdoor education, and by mentoring younger pupils. These experiences shape them into confident, adaptable young adults, ready for whatever comes next.
Newly-elected Chair of Governors, Jamel Banda, remarked: “I feel very proud to have taken over the leadership of the Board at Freemen's and am delighted that the School has, once again, produced such outstanding A Level results, very much in line with last year's record-breaking results. My congratulations to the Class of 2025 and thanks to staff at Freemen's for all they have done to support them.”
As they head off to universities, apprenticeships, and exciting new adventures, we know our Class of 2025 will continue to make a positive difference in the world. Equipped with academic excellence, leadership skills, and a breadth of experiences, our leavers are ready to shape their futures with confidence and purpose. Congratulations – you’ve been brilliant!
