Central Surrey Cross Country Success

Great performances in the Surrey Schools Cross Country in Priory Park & the GHS Cross Country Relays

We are pleased to report fantastic running successes over the weekend and the last couple of days with a number of athletes being selected to run in Surrey Schools’ Cross Country championships.

To be nominated as one of the best athletes in your District is an impressive achievement in itself but being selected to run for Central Surrey is fantastic. These Championships saw a number of our athletes play major roles in securing South Surrey District team success and suggest their potential as extremely talented athletes.

The U13s Championships saw A. Turner with an impressive 21st place alongside M. McEwen (53rd) & O. McCreight (60th) running exceptionally well. In the junior boys’ championships, it was pleasing to see one of our rising running stars continue to make progress even against the very best of athletes. J. Valkenburg finished an impressive 15th & will be selected for the Inter Counties Championship later in the year.

Out of 103 runners in the junior girls’ race, Freemen's had three athletes competing. B. Taylor finished a fantastic 22nd, C. Royle 24th followed by K. Bunyard & L. Smith.

K. Valkenburg also gained a top 20 place -16th overall and will accompany her brother in the Inter Counties Championships.

Finally our senior girls also did themselves proud and gained top 30 places, J. Dunstan 28th & L. Fisher 30th. Huge congratulations to all those runners!

Following on from this Freemen's were able to enter every age group at the Guildford High School Cross Country Relays on Monday afternoon. With teams in the U11 through to U18s competitions each runner ran a lap of the cross country course to hand over to the next runner. The girls again performed magnificently with the U15s winning their age group and the U13s gaining a second place overall. U11s were 10th overall, U12s - 12th & U14s - 8th. Again special mention to the Senior team who recruited team mates a gained a 6th place overall.
