Top 12 for Freemen's discus thrower at the English Schools Athletics

Great results for Katie in the Discus

Freemen's L5 student Katie Lyons, performed amazingly at the English Schools National Championships. The U17 Intermediate year group are truly phenomenal at discus which is shown by with the winner being just a metre behind that of the Senior Girls 1st place.

Katie got all of her 3 throws in the sector which she was delighted with, as at a few previous events she has had the first one or two going into the net.  Her best was 33.99 metres and she had set herself the target of 34 metres, so she was happy with 1cm short of that in her first English Schools.  In total Katie came 12th nationally, and this is only her first year in the U17 competition.  She was ranked 14th going into the competition.  Additionally, there were only 5 first year U17s competing - the rest were all 2nd years and fortunately will not be with Katie next year!!

Katie said she loved the atmosphere,  the athletes parade, staying with the team and made some good friends amongst the throwing contingent.   She said the whole experience was amazing and arrived home absolutely buzzing and is looking forward to hopefully going again next year with the aim of making the top 8.
