Lower 6 Charlie puts Ashtead Skate Park on the map

A Lower 6 pupil has celebrated Ashtead Skate Park in an article that has been published in a national Geography magazine.

Charlie Bolam, who uses the park himself, chose to write the article for GCSE Geography magazine Wide World after questioning why the park was there and what the rest of Ashtead had thought about it.

“I live in Ashtead and used to skate regularly in the Skate Park. I often wondered about the geography behind the park- why it was there, and how it has been received by the rest of the community. When the opportunity came up to write an article about our local geography, something on the Skate Park seemed to me to be an obvious topic," explained Charlie.

Charlie's article examines the postive impact the park has had on the community since its grand opening in 2009. It is not the first time Freemen's student's have been published in this magazine. The success has spurred Charlie on to writing more in the future.

"I am an enthusiastic geographer and love my A level studies, and enjoy sharing my knowledge with GCSE students across the country. Plus no one has ever heard of Ashtead so it is great to put it on the map!

I look forward to writing more, and to getting more of my ideas in print,” said Charlie.

Copies of the magazine are available in the School Library.
