Art & Craft
The Junior Art Club runs throughout the year for the different year groups in the Junior School. Pupils explore different techniques and projects to those in their art lessons.
Pupils explore the different techniques including painting, clay, collage, printing, modelling, drawing, and textiles through a variety of projects. For example Year 3 have recently created fish in different materials, Year 4 explored techniques including wax resist and tissue tie dye, and Year 5 made clay tiles as part of an Olympics display.
Junior Clay Club is for pupils in Years 3-6, and pupils learn how to transform clay into a variety of objects. They work individually and collectively on their own ideas and commissioned pieces.
Pupils create glazed and fired ceramic pieces, some for pupils to take home and others for display. Our talented potters recently made some vases for display on the tables at coffee afternoons for local retired residents, hosted by the sixth form. They have also created some ceramic cakes for display in the Junior School - they look good enough to eat!
Craft Club allows pupils in Years 3-6 to try out different crafts including card making, sewing, clay work, painting, collage and weaving. Last year pupils made Christmas crafts, cards for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, foil bugs, and toilet roll mice!
Knitting Club teaches Junior pupils how to knit, starting with the basics of holding and using the needles and wool, through to learning different stitches, and how they are used to achieve patterns.
Pupils are encouraged to make items, and members of the club have made figure puppets, ghosts for Halloween, stockings for the tree at Christmas, egg covers for Easter and soft teddies.
Throughout the year the Senior Art department offer a variety of workshops and short courses to any pupil wishing to learn a new skill and explore their creativity beyond the classroom and their timetabled art lessons. Pupils can choose from a variety of disciplines including ceramics, textiles, photography, fashion illustration and life drawing.
