Pupils attend Silent Ceremony at the Guildhall

The City of London elects a new Lord Mayor every year who is sworn into office in the Silent Ceremony the day before the Lord Mayor’s Show. Pupils from the 6th Form were privileged to attend the Silent Ceremony on Friday 8th November at the Guildhall London.

The Lord Mayor of London is the City’s Mayor and the leader of the City of London Corporation. The 692nd Lord Mayor of London is Mr Alderman William Russell.

The duty of the Lord Mayor, both traditionally and in the modern world, is to promote and represent the City of London, presenting the City and the whole country to the world as a leader in trade, financial technology, innovation in areas like cybersecurity and green finance, and in culture, which he sees as vitally important to society.

The Lord Mayor’s Show took place on Saturday 9th November and finished with the new Lord Mayor being carried in a 262-year old State Coach to Westminster to swear loyalty to the Crown.
