Tacitus Lecture

Redefining a broader sense of purpose -  Christine Lagarde.

Four Lower 6 Economics and Business students were recently invited to attend the 32nd World Traders’ Tacitus Lecture at the Guildhall. This year’s lecture ‘The Financial Sector: Redefining a Broader sense of purpose' was given by Christine Lagarde, Managing Director, IMF. It was an enlightening and inspiring talk focusing on the purpose and future of the sector. Madame Lagarde spoke about the need for the sector to lose its villain status and rediscover its moral and original purpose of serving others. Students particularly engaged with her comments around the need for more women within the sector and the role the finance sector has in protecting the environment. These Lower 6 students will now take part in the Tacitus London Schools’ debating competition where the group will research and give a talk on whether finance is a force for good or bad.
