Freemen's Adam becomes Surrey Champion
Lower 5 student Adam Coates has beaten the competition to become U15 Surrey County Champion for Pentathlon.
In a very close competition, Adam not only secured the win, he set personal bests (PBs) in all five events: hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot and 800m.
"I was fairly confident in my long jump and 800m, but was pleased to do so well in the more technical events like hurdles and high jump," said Adam after his success. "I was hoping to finish in the top three, but really didn't expect to win overall!"
The total points score currently places him in the UK top 20 for pentathlon in his age group. In the Surrey County Relay Championships, Adam also helped his team to a gold medal in the 4 x 300m relay.
Adam is now looking to next year: "in my age group next year the pentathlon becomes an octathlon, so there will be some new events for me to try. I'll keep working on my sprinting too as that's what I enjoy most".
