Freemen’s is delighted to announce our 2025 GCSE results, with our pupils once again demonstrating academic excellence, resilience, and balance.
- 36% of grades were 9
- Nearly two thirds of grades were 8-9 (A* equivalent)
- 82% of grades were 7, 8 and 9s
Headmaster Roland Martin commented: “We are immensely proud of this year’s cohort. Their commitment to learning, their curiosity, and their support for one another have all contributed to these outstanding results. What makes me particularly proud is not just their academic achievement - our pupils excel across every area of the academic curriculum, from languages and sciences to mathematics, the arts, and humanities - but also how they balance this with embracing a wide range of co-curricular opportunities. It is worth remembering that our curriculum at present expects every pupil to study three discrete sciences as part of their studies; Freemen's is the only school I have taught in that has that expectation and it demands rigour! These excellent results reflect not only their ability but also their character."
Notable Highlights
- Languages: While national entries in Modern Foreign Languages continue to fall, Freemen’s pupils buck the trend. German saw 85% of pupils achieve 8 or 9, Chinese 87%, and Latin 80%, highlighting both excellence and subject diversity
- Mathematics: 86% of pupils achieved 8 or 9, preparing them strongly for A Level Maths and subjects where mathematics is essential
- Design & Technology: 97% of pupils achieved 7/8/9, reflecting creativity, practical problem-solving, and innovation
- Food Preparation & Nutrition: 100% of pupils achieved 8 or 9, demonstrating skills in healthy cooking and understanding nutrition, essential in today’s world of rising health awareness
- Girls in STEM: Freemen’s girls continue to excel in STEM, with 86% achieving grades 7 to 9 at GCSE across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This mirrors the success seen at A Level, where our female pupils thrive in a co-educational environment, combining academic excellence with confidence in traditionally male-dominated subjects
Sophie Blair, Head of Senior School and leader of Pastoral and Wellbeing initiatives, added: "What stands out about our GCSE pupils is not just their academic achievement, but the way they support one another and fully embrace life at Freemen’s. At a time when national headlines raise concerns about narrow curricula and pupil wellbeing, our pupils show that it is possible to combine excellence with balance, resilience, and enjoyment."
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Jamel Banda, concluded: "These results are hugely impressive, but what matters even more is that our pupils are ready and confident for the next stage in their lives. At a time when national results have fallen and the education sector faces real challenges, Freemen’s has shown remarkable resilience and consistency. That strength comes from the spirit of this community – pupils, parents and staff working together – and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved together.”
