We are a diverse school and welcome students from across the world.
About 15% of our pupils are from outside of the UK and come from a wide range of countries including Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Japan, Tanzania, Nigeria and Germany. Boarding at Freemen's starts from Year 9 (13+) and above. Day places are available from Year 3 (7+).
Choosing the right school is a big decision, particularly when that school is in a different country. Our friendly and dedicated International Admissions team can answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process of applying to Freemen’s.

Please note that the application process on this page applies to pupils who:
- are currently living and studying overseas and
- English is not their first language
If English is the pupil's first language or they are currently at school in the UK, please follow the process for UK applicants by clicking on the link below.
Step 1: School report and UKiset
- School report / official transcript (for entry to Junior School) - Please send us a copy of your child’s most recent school report before making a formal application. We will then advise whether we can proceed with your application.
- UKiset (for entry to Senior School and Sixth Form) - Before you formally apply to Freemen’s, you must sit the UKiset Entrance Assessment. This is an online test taken in English, which provides us with the information we need when considering whether we can accept your registration. The UKiset report must be submitted by the end of September in the calendar year prior to entry.
Due to the large number of registrations that we receive each year, we will not progress applications that do not meet these minimum criteria.
Candidates will be expected to have a good standard of both written and spoken English. Candidates seeking entry to Year 7 and Year 8 should have a minimum Cambridge English. The following minimum English levels are required:
- Year 7 and Year 8 entry: Cambridge English Level B1 (or equivalent)
- Year 9 and Year 10 entry: Cambridge English Level B2 (or equivalent)
- Year 12 (Sixth Form) entry: Cambridge English Level C1 (or equivalent)
Step 2: Registration
Once you have taken the UKiset exam or submitted a copy of your child’s most recent school report, we will be in touch to confirm if we can proceed with your application. If we can, we will then invite you to complete our online registration form and pay the £200 non-refundable registration fee.
Step 3: Entrance assessments
We consider the following when deciding to offer a place:
- Written assessments in English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning
- A one-to-one online interview, which allows us to find our more about your child's personality and interests
- A confidential report from your child's current school
Entrance assessments may be taken at an approved agents’ office, subject to agreement by the School, or at a local British Council Office. Online interviews will be arranged via Microsoft Teams. Please indicate on the registration form that you wish your child to sit the assessments overseas.
Sixth Form Applicants
International candidates who are not sitting GCSEs or are taking fewer than 7 GCSEs will be required to sit written entrance examinations in Mathematics, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Following the entrance examinations, those candidates who meet our academic entry requirements will also be offered an individual online interview as part of the assessment process.

Step 5: Offers of Places
Decision letters will be sent by email in December.
The time you have to accept your place will vary depending on which year group you apply for. Most will have until the end of January. Those applying for Year 7 will have until the first working weekday in March.
We run an online Q & A session in the New Year for anyone who still has questions before making their decision.
Step 6: Acceptance
To accept your place, you will need to sign and return the acceptance form with the £2,000 deposit for day pupils and a full term's fees for boarders.
We send out the New Starters Pack with all the information you will need to join the school sometime after the Easter holidays. We will also support you through the visa application process if you require.
Step 7: Induction Events
We hold induction for pupils and parents towards the end of the Summer Term. Children and young people will have the chance to meet their class or tutor group, as well as their teachers or tutors. Parents are invited to an evening reception to meet other parents and have talks from the relevant of Heads of School.
We run an online induction event for any students joining the Boarding House in the Summer Term. The Boarding Staff will talk through life in Walbrook.
After you arrive in September, there are two days of induction into the Boarding House and orientation of the school.
