At Freemen's we are committed to supporting families who might not have the financial means to consider a Freemen’s education. Our bursary programme is designed to support even more children so they benefit from a Freemen's education.
The school is committed to increasing the number of bursaries on offer to widen access to the school and enable talented pupils, regardless of background or ability to pay, to benefit from a Freemen’s education. In line with the school's strategic vision, the aim is for 10% of pupils to be in receipt of bursary provision by 2030.
Bursaries are a cause close to the heart of the Headmaster, Roland Martin. “I grew up in a council house and my dad died when I was four and a half. I was brought up on a widow's pension and was lucky enough to go to Rendcomb College, an independent school, for free. I spent seven years there as a boarder, and the experience transformed my life and why I feel so passionately about giving young people opportunities,” he explains.
“To hear the stories of our former students, makes me proud of what they have achieved and look forward to seeing how they continue to develop and grow.”
We caught up with three of our former students and they share their stories about their experiences and how coming to Freemen's on a bursary opened many doors of opportunity for them.
