Regional Finals for U18 Indoor Hockey team

Fantastic Freemen's Fight at the Regional Hockey Finals

On Sunday 9th December the Freemen's U18 Indoor Hockey team travelled to Trinity for the Regional Finals.

The first game was against KCS Wimbledon and the girls came out firing, distributing the ball out of defence and shooting early. Every member of the team managed to get minutes in the game and the final score was 7-2 to us. Our first ever win at this level and it was emphatic.

The next game was against the tournament favourites; Wellington. We knew this would be a hard fought game and the girls unfortunately ended up pressing in front of their own D and lost 5-0.

It was all to play for in the last game. Whoever won became semi-finalists. The Girls were fantastic, listened to every tactic and strategy and implemented it with skill and passion. We were leading 2-0 when Borlase, opted to play with a kicking back. The team relished the opportunity to score more, backed themselves and won 5-0 to progress to the semi-finals.

We were drawn against Cranleigh. The girls were one game away from a national final with some very very tough opposition ahead. It was a hard fought game but unfortunately the girls lost 4-2. A respectably good score line against formidable opposition.

To come in the top 4 in the South of England is an incredible achievement and all involved showed fantastic passion, skill and teamwork.

The team comprised of: Charlotte Cheng-Whitehead ©, Sarah Irwin (GK) Evelyn L, Abby D, Stephanie S, Steffi T, Katie L, Megan H, Becky L and Sophie D.
